Corpons
Classification: Subterranean Biotremor Predator
Habitat: Jouven – Corpon Fields, Railroad Zones
Elemental Type: Earth / RAD-Affected
Status: Lethal – Territorial Alpha Beast
Group Name: A coil of Corpons
Description:
Corpons are colossal, subterranean worm-like monsters native to the dry lowlands of [[Jouven]], especially between Fronka and Badlamb. Towering over humans at 20x their size, they are infamous for burrowing beneath railway lines and surfacing in devastating surprise attacks. These violent apex predators sense prey through subtle vibrational pulses in the ground, locking onto movement with terrifying precision.
The segmented body of a Corpon stretches across the landscape like a living trench. Its leathery hide mimics cracked desert stone—ashen brown on top, fading to charcoal gray and pale clay underneath. Jagged, faintly glowing green-yellow stripes run irregularly along its body, flickering like moss-covered embers under low light or RAD auroras.
First Encounter:
Travelers leaving Fronka quickly learn the danger of the Corpon Fields, a crater-ridden stretch of dry tan earth where these monsters nest. The early railway lines between Fronka and Badlamb have long been haunted by Corpon attacks, making them a regional nightmare for Dominion engineers and a major threat to civilians.
One of the first major boss encounters occurs here, where the party must face off against a burrowing Corpon that bursts from the earth mid-crossing—teeth gnashing, aura flickering, and all hell breaking loose.
Behavior:
Burrow Ambush: Corpons wait motionless underground, sensing the tremors of trains, footsteps, or wind-warped fences. When triggered, they erupt from the soil in a split-second lunge.
Territorial Destruction: They are hyper-aggressive when disturbed, especially near rail lines or shallow roots. They lash out at anything that disturbs their tunnels—even fellow Corpons.
Tunnel Collapse: After attacking, Corpons will often retreat by collapsing the ground behind them, creating sinkholes or trapping the unwary.
Solitary & Unyielding: Despite their numbers in a region, Corpons do not travel in packs. Each claims its own territory and will fight to the death to defend it.
Physical Traits:
Head & Mouth: A flattened wedge-shaped head with two vestigial, bead-sized black eyes. The real threat lies in the massive, unhinging jaw, filled with uneven, jagged fangs that curve in erratic directions.
Body: Muscular and flexible, covered in abrasive, razor-edged scales. Each segment is ribbed with thick folds of hardened hide that scrape and tear through the ground.
Coloration: Dark brown and gray base tones with faint bioluminescent green-yellow markings; these glow more intensely when preparing to strike.
Saliva: Thick, ropy strands of RAD-reactive fluid cling between its teeth. It sizzles when dropped on rock and causes hallucinations or disorientation on contact.
Abilities:
Seismic Sense: Can detect the faintest ground vibrations and home in on them
Tunnel Crash: Forces terrain collapse, creating hazards behind or beneath itself
Jaw Lock: A crushing bite that immobilizes and slowly tears through armor
Eruption Slam: Emerges from below in a massive upward burst, sending debris flying
RAD-Scar Spit: Projects RAD-laced saliva as a long-range hazard (rare elite trait)
Battle Tips:
Keep moving and don’t linger near the rails. Corpons are motion-tracking, not vision-based.
Avoid clustered terrain—Corpons can cause cave-ins or close off paths by collapsing tunnels.
Use fire or sonic attacks to disrupt their seismic senses and force them to surface.
Once above ground, target their glowing stripe segments—these are energy-saturated and prone to rupturing under pressure.
